Land and ocean wind farms produce base load power

Hydro storage for solar and/or wind energy base load power.

Wind power is one of the top five cleanest non-carbon dioxide emitting forms of renewable energy available to Americans. Wind farms in different locations have the ability to generate power around the clock eliminating the need for non renewable base load power facilities. Wind turbines, when compared to fossil fuels and obstacles to wind mankind has built, pose no threat to birds and other wildlife.

Ocean Wind Farms installed on the Unites States East Coast will have the greatest contribution of renewable energy to the electric grid.

The amount of energy generated from a large properly located wind turbine very quickly offsets the amount of energy used to make these machines. It is this reason they are a better, more efficient alternative to fossil fuel generators.

The smart grid now being built in the US will be able to send power to where and when it is needed taking into account daily fluctuations in wind speed form different wind turbine locations. Wind turbines perform better in the winter months opposite to solar Photovoltaic (PV) making them a viable and practical substitute to using fossil fuels to generate electricity.

The performance of any wind turbine is largely determined by its location and size. NES&WP LLC does not recommend a wind turbine be located on the roof of any residential or commercial building. Please read the below to have a better understanding of where to locate a wind turbine for optimum performance.

  1. An average wind speed of no less than 15 miles per hour is desirable and this generally can only be achieved with an 120 foot high tower or greater.
  2. A 120 foot high tower in most cases clears the tree line and prevents wind sheer from objects like trees and small building. Locating a wind turbine in or close to an ocean or large lake dramatically improves the average wind speed.
  3. The higher the tower, sea elevation and size of the blades the greater the output of the wind turbine.

By 2014, government subsidies for the new construction of large scale advanced technology three megawatt wind farms will no longer be needed to compete with any fossil fuel or nuclear power. The long term low maintenance cost and price certainty of the fuel (free wind energy) used to power a wind turbine has a major economic advantage over fossil and nuclear fuels. Investors around the world are starting to recognize wind power as a sound long term stable investment over fossil fuels and nuclear power. The wind industry in the next 20 years will be one of the fastest growing industries around the world.
